Read Books
Picking up a book to read is easier said than done.
That coming from someone who used to dislike the idea of spending so much time reading a book, let alone finishing a thick-paged one. I wasn’t primarily enthusiastic about books back then. For a fleeting moment, I could say reading it was tolerable. However, I was just not a pre-teen who got caught in the fuss of written fiction series like Harry Potter nor Narnia, well, at least not until they were adapted into movies.
As a kid, there were times when I was slightly pushed to read, and I loathed that a lot. Fortunately, my parents somewhat understood my unwillingness to read books at someone else’s will. Ever since then, they encouraged me to read books in another way. I remembered them bringing various kinds of children’s books, mostly written in English, with exuberant illustrations and interesting storylines to home, setting up a small “book corner” in the living room, as well as giving me the liberty to read at my own pace. Perhaps, those were attempts to familiarize me more with books and the English language at once.
Now, I find immense pleasure in reading books.
Just how fast the night changes, well, One Direction had a point here. I went from being irritated to having hours spent finishing a one-thousand-page book within one day. I honestly didn’t think it was possible, considering my start line was quite bumpy. I must admit, senior-high-school life was such a game-changer. I started going to the bookstore often, mostly on weekends, two until three times per month. At first, my purpose was either to read or purchase some useful books to understand certain subjects in-depth at school. But after indeliberately discovering the right books to read, be it fiction or non-fiction, I loved the idea of having my curiosity piqued and ended up reading any book igniting that sense.
Fast forward to my college life, though there had been some inevitable changes within me, my interest in the art of reading never seemed to cease.
It has always been one of my sources of solace. It was not limited to books only; I literally read anything that could be insightful and entertaining. So far, I have finished reading at least 50 books, all fiction and non-fiction combined. By the end of this year, I am more than determined to have 30 new books added to my list. Period.
